想想看,新员工加入的成本是多么得高(new hires are expensive to bring on board),各种培训费(training costs)、团队建设支出(team building costs),雇主们当然要确保在你未来几年的“计划清单(planing list)”上没有快速跳槽这一项。

所谓最成功的面试者(the most successful candidates),他们的基本目标( ultimate aims)与职位所要求的的必定是一致的( align with those aims of the organization),即使他们没有把整个职业生涯花在同一个工作上(even if they don’t spend their entire career working for the same employer)。

(This question is also a good way for them to determine if your career goals are a good fit for the company.),他们需要确保你和这个职位要求的契合度(fitness)。或许你不需要详细给出5年内的计划(don’t need to know exactly where you’re planning to be in five years),但至少要有明确的方向( but you need to be pointed in some direction)。

回答这类问题的关键点(key point)在于:切实关注你所想应聘的公司与职位( focus on the position and the company you are interviewing with)。 我们假设你现在是一名刚刚拿到资格证的小学教师(a newly minted registered teacher),而你想进的那所小学就职名额并不多( the school you’re interviewing with doesn’t have a lot of openings for nurse practitioners),那么原本设想的“工作几年再回到学校修一些提升性课程”的规划就不适合说出来了。 (This is another reason why it’s important to do your research before you arrive for the job interview)。

另外,回答这类问题必须切记“偏题”,即谈论你自己关于工作之外的规划(don’t discuss your personal goals outside of work)。

My long-term goals involve growing with a company where I can continue to learn, take on additional responsibilities, and contribute as much value as I can. I love that your company emphasizes professional development opportunities. I intend to take advantage of all of these.

I see myself as a top-performing employee in a well-established organization, like this one. I plan on enhancing my skills and continuing my involvement in related professional associations.

Once I gain additional experience, I would like to move on from a technical position to management. I know this is a common path for many people in this position. However, for now, I am excited about focusing on and applying my technical skills in this job.
